Agent role and access

An 'Agent' is a third party who has a basic level of access to the Export Service.

  • Account
  • Roles
  • Principal authority

A ‘Principal Authority (Owner)’ or ‘Manager’ needs to invite an ‘Agent’ to act for a business in the Export Service. The ‘Agent’ role has a basic access level and can perform the following tasks:

  • Manage a registered establishment*.
  • Submit applications*.
  • Make changes to management or control*.
  • Set and change notification preferences.
  • Receive department notifications and messages.

*You can only do these tasks if you are listed in management or control for a registered establishment. For more information, go to How is an account different from management or control?.

Roles and access

The Export Service has 4 roles with varying permission and access levels. Each person is assigned a role to ensure they have the correct access to a business.

For example, some people should have limited access to view information only. Others may need full access to financial transactions and information. For more information, go to Roles and access levels in the Export Service.

Job titles and Export Service roles

Your assigned role in the Export Service may differ from your job title in the business.

An ‘Agent’ may work in a business as:

  • a service provider
  • an export agent
  • a freight forwarder
  • a trader.

Changing roles and access

If you can't do something in the Export Service, it may be because you need to be assigned a different role and access level. For more information, go to Manage who can act for my business.
